Abstract

High resolution measurements of the expansivity of Polytran NaCl were made with a three-terminal capacitance dilatometer1 in the temperature range from 60 K to room temperature. The sample, a short rod of length 1.27 cm (0.500 in.), was supplied by the Harshaw Chemical Co. Our values for the coefficients of linear thermal expansion for Polytran NaCl are compared with those for single-crystalline NaCl determined by other investigations. Also, earlier measurements on Polytran BaF2 and KCl (which were carried out in our laboratory) are reviewed.2
