Abstract

The LLNL optical laser-pumped soft x-ray laser research program is described. By the time of the conference, we should have resumed studies of the collisional excitation neonlike schemes previously reported1 and have determined their saturation power output levels. Also included is a verification of the transverse coherence length and a determination of the output brightness. Also described are future applications of the x-ray laser, particularly in the area of holography. Finally, we present some of our schemes to achieve even shorter wavelengths than the 15.5 nm currently achieved.
