Abstract

Using the principle that for a spherical surface the nodal points coincide with the center of curvature,1 a technique was previously developed2 for measuring the radius of curvature r of such surfaces. The basic equipment required is a low-power He-Ne laser and a nodal bench. In this paper this technique is extended for cylindrical and toric lenses. For these types of lens, the measurements are taken along one or two perpendicular directions, depending on the type of lens. The present method also allows the measurement of decenterings and wedges in the lenses. If modest equipment is used, the accuracy for r is ±0.05 mm, and for wedges it is ±0.7′.
