Abstract
Some implications of an integral equation that is frequently used in solutions of inverse scattering problems and generalized holography are discussed. In particular it is shown that the equation can only provide information about a filtered structure of the scatterer. With weak scatterers the filtering is shown to suppress all spatial-frequency components that represent details smaller than about half a wavelength of the incident wave. A comparison with another inversion method2 is also made.
