Abstract
We are studying a new type of fiber-optic gyroscope and propose to utilize a standing-wave acoustooptic modulator (SWAOM) as a component of the system. When a laser beam passes through the SWAOM, two laser beams emerge: one is the diffracted first-order beam and the other is the undiffracted zeroth-order beam. The diffracted beam has two components; the frequency of one component is shifted up and the other is shifted down by the acoustic drive frequency ωs.
