Abstract
In surface-enhanced Raman scattering experiments the depolarization ratio for the breathing vibrant modes of the pyridine molecule adsorbed on a metal surface is ρ > 0.5, which is much larger than the free pyridine value of ρ < 0.05. To examine the influence of colloid aggregation on the Raman depolarization ratio, we consider the colloid particles as two spheres each with a radius of R (R ≪ λ) and calculate the Raman depolarization ratios for the breathing vibrant modes of pyridine adsorbed on silver sol particles.
