Dichoptic hyperacuity: the precision of Nonius alignment

Open Access Open Access

Abstract

The precision of Vernier alignment and Nonius alignment (dichoptic Vernier) depends on gap size. We measured thresholds for monocular Vernier and dichoptic Nonius alignment of briefly flashed short lines. Over a large range of gap sizes, monocular Vernier thresholds are approximately a constant fraction of gap size (equivalent to a constant orientation threshold).
