Abstract
Some new results are presented regarding a recently developed coherent-mode representation of statistical wave fields.1,2 It is shown that when a wave field is generated by a planar source of any state of coherence, which only contains effective spatial-frequency components that are smaller than the wave number of the emitted light, the coherent-mode representation has some very simple and useful properties. Potential applications of the results are mentioned.
