Abstract
Threshold data are presented for changes in density of random dot images in which the size of the individual square dots range from 0.04 to 0.31°. The data are compared with corresponding thresholds for homogeneous images. Already at mesopic luminances the fine dot structure markedly influences the contrast threshold. For large dots the contribution of a dot counting mechanism is apparent.
