New short-wavelength chain-reaction chemical laser scheme

Open Access Open Access

Abstract

A new UV–visible chemical laser scheme, invoking a novel chemiexcitation method for the well-known XeF laser, exhibits promising characteristics in a detailed numerical model and experimental studies. Reaction of premixed XeF2 and HN3 is photoinitiated, then continues by radical chain propagation. The upper laser level is produced by energy transfer from metastable N2 electronic states.
