Abstract
Data on the wavelength dependence of intraocular light scatter are scarce and contradictory. Using the psychophysical glare method, we have determined the equivalent luminance at the center of an annulus of 3° inner and 8° outer diameters. The equivalent luminance is 1-2% of the ring's luminance and is independent of wavelength over the range from 420 to 650 nm. These findings were confirmed on two normal, 55-year-old observers. The results rule out Rayleigh scatter as a significant contributor to intraocular scatter in the normal human eye.
