Abstract
Optical tomography offers advantages over conventional techniques for visualizing complicated mixing fluid flows. We have developed a system for acquiring 3-D measurements of concentration nonintrusively in a turbulent mixing coflowing jet. Holographic interferograms simultaneously record views from 36 different angles of the jet in 300 μs. The interferograms are processed tomographically to yield the index of refraction at all points in the jet. We show measurements of a 6-m/s helium jet mixing with air. The temporal resolution, spatial resolution, and SNR are very good.
