Abstract

Since Lohmann proposed his detour phase method for holographic encoding in 1966, methods for encoding the complex-valued object wavefront into a real non-negative hologram transmittance function have proliferated. However, these traditional methods generate suboptimal holograms and fail to utilize fully the device resolution. We have developed a new method for hologram synthesis, direct binary search, that efficiently utilizes the available hologram resolution.
