Solitons in stimulated two-photon scattering

Open Access Open Access

Abstract

Stimulated two-photon processes (such as Raman and Brillouin scattering) admit solitons in which the transfer of optical energy from the pump is reversed. In the presence of coherence decay, solitonlike waves can be created by phase shifts in amplifier configurations. Temporal narrowing and, in the presence of detuning, pulse decay occur. We review the basic theory of these phenomena, experiments, and possible uses.
