Abstract

Today's research in the field of coherent lightwave systems indicates that FSK heterodyne techniques are particularly attractive for use in multichannel lightwave networks. In order for such systems to become commercially feasible, however, several laser device requirements must be met. These include improvements in laser spectral characteristics, modulation response, and packaging.
