Novel ferroelectric liquid crystals derived from lactic acid

Abstract

Optically active compounds of the following chemical structures were synthesized from lactic acids:

R1(CORE)OCH2CH(CH3)OC(O)R2; (1)

R2(CORE)OCH2C*H(CH3)OC(O)C*H(CH3)OR2 (2)

(R1, the alkyl or alkoxy group; R2, alkyl group).
