Abstract
A prime attribute of holographic optical elements is the ability to multiplex several functions in the same thin film recording material. When holograms are optically recorded gratings can be encoded either sequentially or simultaneously. Trade-offs exist between the higher efficiency of simultaneously recorded holograms and the lower noise of sequentially encoded gratings.
