Dispersion curve gaps observed in optical emission

Open Access Open Access

Abstract

Coupled surface plasmon as well as waveguide excitations are supported in corrugated photoresist-metal-photoresist geometries. At particular wavelengths, forward and backward propagating excitations are phase matched via the sinusoidal corrugation. This results in second-order Bragg scattering of these excitations into the far-field radiation zone of a sample. Detection of the radiation reveals momentum as well as energy gaps in the dispersion curves of the excitations. These gaps are investigated for different combinations of interacting excitations and for two different detection techniques: fixed angle scan in wavelength or fixed wavelength scan in angle.
