Abstract

Recently we developed photorefractive fibers of SBN (Ref. 1) for use in optical data storage and processing applications. It was found that the angular sensitivity of multiple holograms stored in the fiber is four to five times higher than in bulk SBN of the same thickness because of waveguiding. In this paper we expand on the use of fibers for two-beam coupling and phase conjugation. Self-phase conjugation has been observed by directing a single beam down the bore of the fiber. Experimental results as well as theoretical analysis of two-beam coupling and phase conjugation in a fiber are reported.
