Abstract
Beam coupling and pulsations in BaTiO3 were discussed earlier.1 We report here interaction of two mutually coherent beams A1 and A2 from a He-Ne laser. The beam crossing angle in BaTiO3 is 5°, with A1 making 78° with the C-axis. With individual pumpings, detectors D1 and D2 record self-pumped phase conjugates A1 and A2. With both beams on, they record [A1(t) + Â2(t) – Δ2] and [A2(t) + Â1(t) — Δ2], respectively, where Â2 and Â1 represent cross coupling beams of A2 and A1 along A1 and A2, respectively, and Δ1 and Δ2 represent the erasure effects on A1 and A2 by A2 and A1 By recording first the intensities at D1 and D2, keeping both A1 (3.25 mw) and A2 (3.00 mw) on, and then turning off A2, D1 falls down suddenly in intensity to (A1 — Δ1) which rises and saturates at A1(t), giving the relative values (a1:Â2: Δ1) = (165:77:112). Similar observations by putting off A1 give (a2: Â1: Δ2) = (88:62:64). Intensity with simultaneous pumping will be smaller or larger than with individual pumping depending on whether  < Δ or  > Δ.
