Abstract

Intense photon beams from high power wiggler and undulator sources can seriously degrade the performance of crystal monochromators. Recent finite element calculations and cooling experiments1 ave shown the correlation between the performance degradation and thermal deformations of silicon crystals. In this paper we present results obtained from extending the finite element analysis to optimization of the crystal geometry and cooling channel configuration aimed at reducing the crystal deformations to preserve the source brightness.
