Abstract
The Rydberg constant is one of the most interesting fundamental parameters in atomic spectroscopy1 as well as in molecular spectroscopy. In molecular systems, the Rydberg transitions can be mixed with other (valence) transitions. Consequently, there is a question about the origin of the Rydberg constant in the spectroscopy of molecular systems and about the relation between the Rydberg constant and the processes of the momentum transfer from resonant electromagnetic fields. In this work, a possible phase space approach2 to the calculation of the Rydberg constant and the parameter R = 1.096834 is discussed.
