Abstract
This paper presents a set of design rules to implement dispersion compensation for pseudocolor transmission holographic stereograms illuminated by a point white-light source. The technique proposed here1 can be considered a generalization of the "achromatic" transmission hologram described by Benton,2 which includes illumination by a point light source at a finite distance. The axial and vertical correction involves tilting of the master hologram (H1) relative to the image-plane hologram (H2),1,2 and the lateral compensation is done by a one-dimensional magnification along the lateral axis for different color contributions in the white-light reconstruction.2 Dispersion compensation for many commonly used display situations is significantly different from the dispersion compensation for a point source at infinity. For instance, as the point source moves closer to H2, the "achromatic" angle decreases, and lateral correction is required. Experimental data verify the basic analysis, and modeling of the dispersion correction demonstrates its effectiveness.
