Simulation of an optical diffraction grating with spontaneous emission

Open Access Open Access

Abstract

The propagation of an atomic beam through a beam splitter or atomic interferometer involves solving the generalized Bloch equations for the motion of the atoms within an electromagnetic field. We describe a method for obtaining numerical solutions that include the effects of spontaneous emission and detuning during the period of interaction with the electromagnetic field and also during the free propagation between interaction regions. Results from the simulations will be presented.
