Laser-induced gratings in rare-earth-doped glasses

Open Access Open Access

Abstract

We have recently shown that superimposed permanent and transient laser-induced gratings can be established in rare-earth-doped glasses. The transient component is associated with a spatial distribution of the population of rare-earth ions in the metastable state. The permanent component is associated with a change in the local structure of the glass.
