Abstract

The use of tapered waveguides to adiabatically increase the lateral and transverse mode size of a semiconductor laser has been recently demonstrated, and improved tolerances for coupling into a single-mode fiber were reported.1 The adiabatic-mode-expansion (AME) waveguide of the previous work was part of the Fabry–Perot laser cavity.
