Abstract
The error correction and diffusion algorithm is a powerful and constructive binarization process, and it can be modified to accomplish a multiple-level quantization. Such a modification makes additional free parameters available for optimization of the process. We will show how quantization noise can be modified by proper choice of threshold levels. Our experiments illustrate how low-contrast details of the image are upgraded by the process.
