Abstract
The use of SHG for probing monolayers of absorbed molecules has been developed recently and has shown its ability to give the molecular orientation of absorbed speciesbut with some restrictions. In this paper we will present a new method that allows us to obtain all elements of the surface optical susceptibility χ(2). By using two noncollinear beams of different polarizations and by rotating independently the polarization of the two beams, we obtain minima and maxima of the signal generated that give the ratios between all independent elements of the tensor χ(2) (which gives the molecular orientation). Theoretical results obtained by this method will also be given for samples of Rhodamine 6G absorbed on fused silica.
