Innovative adaptive optics using a membrane light modulator: a single-pixel demonstration

Abstract

We report on the demonstration of an all-optical closed-loop adaptive optical compensation system using a membrane light modulator1 (MLM) as the corrector device. A typical MLM consists of a large array of highly reflective, deformable membrane pixels that are driven electrostatically via optical or electrical addressing. The device can therefore impose a phase shift onto a pixelized input beam, controlling the reflected beam’s wavefront.
