Abstract
Image detection in low-light-level conditions is treated as a hypothesis-testing problem based on a finite set of samples, Z1,...,ZK, from a filtered 2-D Poisson process. Since it is not feasible to compute the joint probability distribution of Z1,...,ZK, a straightforward likelihood-ratio test is not a possibility.
