Abstract
We have developed a new type of , fully automated and personal computer (PC) controlled, polarimeter for use in optical fibre systems. The instrument is small, robust and easy to use and will play an important role in future polarisation-related work in the areas of active and passive optical and optoelectronic components, optical fibre communication systems and optical fibre sensors. The optical signal under investigation is coupled into the polarimeter through a standard optical fibre connector and the instrument can then be operated, as desired, in one of the following three measurement modes.
