Optical logic gates using spatial light modulators

Open Access Open Access

Abstract

In the last few years, spatial light modulators (SLMs) have been used to implement binary optical logic operations, because binary logic optical operations are the basic procedures in a digital optical computing system. This paper presents the optoelectronic hybrid approaches of the new linear optics and nonlinear encoding by using optically and electrically addressed spatial light modulators. The main advantages of these SLMs are in terms of the 2-D parallel processing capacity and the possible global interconnections for optical computing.
