Reduction of the laser threshold energy by a spectrum conversion dye

Open Access Open Access

Abstract

Due to the spectrum conversion in the mixed dye method, laser output energy was increased and laser threshold energy was reduced. Converter dye BBQ was added in two different laser dyes, LD490 and Coumarine 503 solutions. Optimum concentrations of laser dye LD490 and C503 were 4 × 10-4 M/liter and 8 × 10-4 M/liter; respectively, under Xe flashlamp pumping. Also those of converter dye BBQ were 5 × 10-6 M/liter for LD490 and 2 × 10-6 M/liter for C503. Experimental results showed that the slope efficiencies of laser output energies were increased 65% in LD490 and 61% in C503 + BBQ due to energy conversion of the pumping light. The laser threshold energies were decreased 39% and 24%, respectively, from the spectrum conversion in the same mixtures.
