Amplification of short pulses in tunable solid-state materials

Abstract

There has been recent interest in amplifying femtosecond-range pulses to the terawatt level by the use of chirped pulse solid-state laser amplifiers.1 In this paper, we describe our progress in amplifying short pulses to the joule level using a variety of tunable solid-state materials.
