Abstract

High efficiency radially symmetric computer generated holograms have been designed and fabricated using an iterative encoding method. This method, termed radially symmetric iterative discrete on-axis (RSIDO), is similar to the previously reported IDO encoding method.1 The RSIDO method was developed for on-axis systems and takes into account the discrete phase levels and phase transitions introduced by fabrication. Computation time is reduced by taking advantage of radial symmetry. This method has been used to achieve diffraction efficiencies of >80% for low f/No. elements. It has also been used to produce holographic optical elements with minimal chromatic aberrations for spectral bandwidths as large as 30 nm. An eight-phase level F/1 holographic lens was fabricated and tested.
