Abstract
Error diffusion has proved to be a valuable tool in the calculation of computer generated holograms. Real-valued error diffusion has been used in calculating the transmission functions real-valued holograms with off-axis reconstructions. Complex-valued error diffusion has been restricted to use with complex-valued holograms. We demonstrate the use of a complex-valued error diffusion algorithm on real-valued hologram data to achieve larger flexibility in the shaping of the noise spectrum. We show a simple scheme of weights selection that results in an almost noise-free region centered at an arbitrary location in the frequency domain.
