Abstract

During the last decade passively mode-locked dye lasers have been the only widely used source of femtosecond optical pulses. Recent advances in ultrashort pulse generation with solid-state lasers opened a new era in femtosecond pulse technology. The fortunate coincidence of these developments with the advent of high power GaAlAs diode lasers offers the possibility of a unique all-solid-state femtosecond technology.
