Discharge fluorescence spectra of S2 vapor

Open Access Open Access

Abstract

The stable self-sustained glow discharge in S2 vapor was obtained at the sulfur vapor temperature of 180–250°C in a transverse discharge quartz cell with UV preionization. The emission spectra of pure S2 is from 293.3 nm to 510.4 nm at the temperature of 230°C. Under the same condition the range of emission spectra changed to 350-520 nm when 2 Torr He buffer gas was added. This shows that the relaxation of B3Σu accrued from He buffer collision. We observed the phenomena of S2 emission spectra due to S2–S2 collision and self quenching when the S2 vapor temperature was higher than 250°C. The double-Blumlein circuit we used produced a pulse rise time of 7 ns and pulse duration of 10 ns.
