Alignment of YAG laser systems with laser achromats

Open Access Open Access

Abstract

Achromats are typically designed for visible wavelengths. These types of achromats perform well at the YAG laser wavelength of 1064 nm but require refocusing between the visible alignment and the near infared. Energy densities must be kept low because of the cemented interface. There was need to design and build a special lens system that could both handle high energy output of the YAG and perform well at a visible laser wavelength for alignment purposes. The lenses that were fabricated and tested yielded diffraction limited performance, and encircled energy plots show that the actual lenses came within 94% of the design encircled energy.
