Application of Hadamard transform to fiber array sensing

Open Access Open Access

Abstract

Multi-monitoring in composite structures, such as aircraft, ships, and submarines, requires array of sensing channels and detectors. It is obvious that major undertakings in procedure and system design are needed. Since multi-fiber is capable of implementing multi-channel sensings, we will propose a technique of using Hadamard transform (HT) applied to monitoring the multi-fiber sensors (MFS). The basic advantage of using the HT technique is that only a single detector is needed. We have also shown that the output signal-to-noise ratio of the proposed technique can be increased by a factor of N/2, where N is the number of sensing fibers.
