Abstract
The diagram clearly illustrates the remarkable properties of a GRIN endoscope with an objective less than one-quarter period in length. The entrance tunnel may be clearly visualized, as well as the remarkable transformation of the entrance pupil and the field of view as the instrument is focussed at progressively shorter distances. I will show how such a system may be designed to allow the transformation of properties from that of a low numerical aperture, wide field endoscope to a large numerical aperture, high magnification microscope by simply changing the ocular system focus.
