Abstract
The observation of a narrow emission band in the vacuum-ultraviolet at 128 nm in a continuous jet discharge of argon is known to show the presence of vibrationally cold rare-gas excimers1. The dynamics of formation of these molecules has been studied by probing the jet with radiation from a titanium-sapphire laser tuned to lines originating from the first excited atomic manifold of argon and observing its effect on the shape of the excimer band.
