Smart liquid crystal spatial light modulator for use in real-time image-intensity contouring

Open Access Open Access

Abstract

Smart pixel back-planes have been designed to detect the edges (intensity gradients) within a selected intensity range to give an isotropic contour map or isophote. Isophote detection is important in determining shape from shading, slant and texture classification as in human vision.
