Abstract

The Z-scan is an elegant single beam technique for measuring nonlinear refraction and absorption.1 A thin slab of material (thickness ≪ Rayleigh length) is scanned through the focus of a Gaussian beam, and the far-field transmittance through an aperture is measured.
