Vertical profiling of phytoplankton by ocean lidar

Open Access Open Access

Abstract

We have developed a method to estimate a vertical profile of phytoplankton in the surface layer of the ocean and applied this method to data observed by an ocean lidar on the equatorial Pacific ocean. The ocean lidar using the second harmonic of Nd.YAG laser has built to measure a laser excited fluorescence from phytoplankton and simultaneously a light scattered by suspended particles in the ocean.
