A Michelson interferometer for ground-based measurements of upper atmospheric winds

Open Access Open Access

Abstract

The E Region Wind INterferometer (ERWIN) was designed specifically to measure winds in the cold (200 K) region of the earth’s atmosphere near the mesopause (85–100 km altitude) by detecting the Doppler shifts of the faint airglow emissions occuring there.
