Approximating fully complex spatial modulation with pseudorandom phase-only modulation

Open Access Open Access

Abstract

Diffractive optics are used to produce far-field patterns as predicted by the Fourier transform. Because typical diffractive elements do not modulate amplitude many design procedures have been developed that iteratively search for the optimal transform pair under the constraint of phase-only modulation. We have instead identified a non-iterative design procedure for approximating any pre-specified Fourier plane pattern with phase-only modulation across the input plane.
