Abstract

The tolerance computation for the design of mounts for a lens uses a geometric description of the ideal positions and optical properties of the elements. Given a geometric description of the mounts and the possible manufacturing and assembly errors we must solve a quality control problem [1,2]: 1. Find the effect of each error on the constructional parameters. 2. Using step 1, find the effect on the aberrations of each of the error. 3. Given the statistical distributions of errors, find the distributions of the aberrations. 4. Using the result of step 3, find the expected yield of manufactured lenses.
