Abstract
Because of its low loss (<0.2 dB/km) and low dispersion (<17ps/nm/km), optical fiber has been widely recognized for its potential in delay line signal processing applications [3, 4, 5]. However, the high insertion loss of optical switches and the high cost of optical amplifiers restrict the implementation of a reconfigurable optical fiber delay line signal processor. Optoelectronic implementation of a switched delay line processor may be simpler and more practical. An optoelectronic ring resonator using a photoconductor receiver has been demonstrated [6], and a 16 tap transversal filter based on MSM photodetector array has been exhibited with programmable bandwidth of 500 MHz [7].
