Abstract

Photochromic fulgide E-α-2, 5-dimethyl-3-furyl ethylidene (isopropylidene) succinic anhydride exhibits two stable states, induced by UV and visible irradiation, characterised by strong homogeneously broadened absorptions at 500 nm and 350 nm respectively (Figure 1). Also shown is the spectral dependence of the change in refractive index, defined by the difference in absorptions via the Kramers-Kronig relationship.
